When you create a new leave type for your company, they are not automatically linked to an allowance. Without the linking of a leave type to an allowance, requests made by employees the leave type will not subtract from a pool of days.
Therefore, it is important to correctly edit all absence types from the beginning. Only then, you should add new users and allow them to request absences.
In the sceen-shot below you can see that the absence type "Vacation" is deducted from the allowance "Vacation". If they weren't linked to each other, the absence type wouldn't reduce the allowance - and the employee could take unlimited vacation days.
Thus, in order to link an absence type with an allowance, simply go to "Settings" and select the absence type you want to edit. When activating the toggle "Substracts days from an allowance (e.g. vacation)", a drop-down menu opens from which you can select the requested allowance. As soon as you have saved the modifications, the absence type is linked to the correct allowance.
