If you want to handle overtime more specifically, use the “Apply to Selection” button to access advanced filter options. This allows you to define exactly which overtime balances should be adjusted – whether through a payout or transfer.
1️⃣ Amount of compensation
This setting defines which overtime balances are affected – either for payout or transfer to a time-off balance.
✅ Full available Amount
Use case: You want to clear all existing overtime hours for selected employees.
Example:
“All employees should have zero overtime at the end of the quarter.” Using this option, everyone’s overtime balance is reset to 0 – regardless of the amount.
✅ Amount that exceeds
Use case: You want to only adjust overtime balances above a certain threshold.
Example:
“Employees are allowed to keep up to 10 hours of overtime – anything above that should be paid out.” Set the filter to Amount greater than 10. If an employee has 13h, only the excess 3h will be adjusted.
✅ Only amounts between X and Y
Use case: You want to target specific overtime ranges.
Example:
“Only employees with 5 to 10 overtime hours should receive an automatic adjustment.” Set the filter accordingly to narrow the adjustment to this group only.
2️⃣ Type
Under “Type”, you decide how the selected overtime hours will be handled:
✅ Pay Out
The overtime hours will be paid out to the employee. These hours are removed from the system and no longer count as available or toward future calculations.
📌 Note: The payout happens outside of absence.io – we only log the adjustment. The action can be undone if needed.
✅ Overtime transfer
The selected overtime hours will be transferred to a defined balance (e.g., "Hourly" or "Vacation"). The hours are not removed, and the employee can use them later for time off.

3️⃣ Compensate
Here, you can define whether the adjusted amount should be multiplied by a certain factor.
Example:
“In this month, I want all overtime to be credited at double value into the overtime balance.”
→ Use x2 as the multiplier.
4️⃣ Comment
To ensure transparency, we recommend always adding a short comment for each adjustment. This helps others understand the reason and timing behind each change.
