How to set up holidays for Christmas & New Year's Eve

In most companies, employees only have to take half day off for both, Christmas and New Year's Eve.

You can easily set this up with absence.io: just go to "Settings" > "Custom holidays / Mandatory Leave" and add a custom holiday pressing the button "Add Holiday" in the upper right corner.

Name this additional free day, enter the date and decide whether you want the day to repeat every year. Especially for Christmas and New Year's Eve, it could be a good idea to set up a yearly repetition. In our example, we have set up a half-day custom holiday - in the afternoon. If the employee does not submit a vacation for the first half of the day, he would have to work in the morning and only has a free afternoon.

Attention: Make sure that you do not tick the box "Set as mandatory leave".

If you want your employees not to actively request vacation for the first half of the day, but an automated deduction as mandatory leave, then you can create another free day. Now you choose the first half of the day (morning) and tick the box "Set as mandatory leave". Doing so, this first half of the day is automatically deducted from the allowance policy of the employees.

On bottom of this window, in both cases you can assign these days to individual locations.

Have fun with our solution - and Merry Christmas!
